Paradise Lost is generally regarded as one of the founders of the the genre of metal known as doomdeath, mixing the raw vocal style of death metal and slowing the riffs down to doom metal speed. Gothic, the band's second album, is widely considered a classic in the genre. As with many doomdeath bands, however, the succeeding albums have moved steadily away from that style, gradually losing the death vocals and instead opting for a more melancholy, slighty goth-influenced mainstream sound, losing almost all metallic ties on albums such as Host and Believe In Nothing. Since then, they've reverted slightly, with Symbol Of Life and the recent Paradise Lost containing a few nods to their mid-period days.

Death Metal'in o boguk ve islenmemis vokali ile Doom Metal'in yavas ve bazende nne geilemeyen hizli gitar riflerini karitirarak kendi tarzi olan Doomdeath stilini ikarmitir. Bu tarzda daha sonra bir ok grubun olmasina ragmen Paradise Lost'u hala kimse yakalayamamitir. Nick Holmes'in bazen melankolik, bazen death ve bazende bogucu bir hava yaratan vokali Paradise Lost'u ayricalikli kilmaktadir. Her albmlerinde hep bir basamak yukari ikiyorlar. Son albmleri olan Paradise Lost bunun en gzel rneini tekil etmektedir. 1988 deki ilk demodan itibaren 2005 teki son albmde dahil ok mkemmel bir basari grafigi yakalamistir...
